The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is a literal count of persons experiencing homelessness that occurs in January each year and is a requirement for agencies receiving federal funding for programs serving homeless persons. The count is completed by conducting surveys with persons actively experiencing homelessness at locations known as “encampments” throughout Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.
The PIT Count provides a “snapshot” of the nature and extent of homelessness in our area. The data collected is used to inform funding decisions and
resource planning, identify service gaps and raise public awareness about homelessness.
The 2024 PIT Count is in person will begin on Wednesday, January 24 and end on Thursday, January 25. The count will be conducted by volunteers that have registered in multiple “shifts” throughout the 24-hour period. In case of inclement weather, the backup dates are January 25–26, 2024.
