The Breathing Apparatus Services Program is responsible for the maintenance and testing of approximately 850 self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in Prince William County. These devices enable firefighters to breathe and work in smoke filled and hazardous environments.
The Breathing Apparatus Services facility opened at its current location in July 2006. The 3005 square foot state- of- the-art facility was designed by staff and houses four technicians. The facility includes office space for six personnel, repair stations that allow for five technicians to work simultaneously, bay space for two mobile service vans, test equipment to conduct respiratory fit testing for teammates and breathing air compressor.
The facility is located next to the Employee Health Unit, allowing for efficient annual respiratory fit testing of teammates during annual physical cycles.
