PulsePoint is a software application designed to support public safety agencies working to improve cardiac arrest/heart attack survival rates through improved bystander performance and active citizenship. The PulsePoint app is integrated with the county's emergency dispatch/9-1-1 system and empowers everyday citizens to provide life-saving assistance to victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)/heart attacks while emergency responders are on their way. Application users, trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and are willing to assist in an emergency, can now be notified through the application.

AEDS

In addition to administering hands-on CPR, there's another method of saving a life -- the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) -- to restore and regulate an irregular heartbeat. The application will direct citizen rescuers to the exact location of the closest Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The application displays a map of the closest AED location in relation to the CPR rescuer. As CPR is being administered, an additional bystander is able to retrieve the AED from the location provided by the PulsePoint app. Special training is not required to operate an AED; the automated device will talk you through the step by step process.

OUR GOAL

PulsePoint is a tool that notifies individuals familiar with CPR. Our goal, Prince William County Fire & Rescue, in conjunction with PulsePoint, is to perform early CPR to try and save as many lives as possible. Click here for more information.
